Description
Vintage IBM PC Type 5150 The PC that started it all! added 11-17-08 ** Please note: To clarify, this 10MB Seagate drive, 10MB controller, and 130Watt power supply was pulled from THIS 5150 PC. It was NOT from a PC XT. I pulled it out before I stored it 17 years ago and stored it seperately. It was an upgrade added to this specific computer. I recently installed the newer looking blank in the slot where the card was. I also have all of the OEM screws and I also reinstalled the original 63.5Watt power supply. The monochrome card is the long board next to the floppy card. This lot is the only vintage IBM hardware that I have and that I have even seen in many years. The drive spins up and I assume that it still works. However due to the parity error it will not load the extra code to fully test it. I do have a 386 and a newer MFM controller in storage and would consider digging it out to perform a test low level to any interested buyer. Please reference the Seagate links at the end of the page for more technical data on the 5MB ST-506 / 10MB ST-412. Thanks. Ok. Here is an auction with a history lesson! I know there are some ultra techies out there such as myself that will surely appreciate this fine piece of hardware. They sure don't make 'em like this anymore! An all original IBM PC type 5150 in outstanding condition. Based on the Intel 8088 processor running at 4.77Mhz this IBM PC 5150 has 64K of Ram on a 256K main board and dual floppy disk drives. It has the awesomely heavy duty 83 key keyboard and an original and beautiful monochrome monitor with absolutely no burn in. I'm also offering in this auction an ST-412 Seagate 10MB hard drive upgrade kit complete with the upgraded 130 Watt power supply upgrade from IBM which was required when these units were upgraded with a hard disk drive. However the bezel around the switch is broken on the other upgrade power supply but the switch still works. Also included in the hard drive kit is the 10MB M.F.M. (Modified Frequency Modulation if I remember correctly) interface controller with cables is also included. I am also including two additional 360K floppy drives. I wish I had an original copy of DOS 2.01 to complete this but I do however have DOS 5.0 if interested. It is a little tricky making disks for these old 5.25" floppies because of the extra wide heads on them... but... you still have the cassette tape port!!! hahaha My friend purchased this machine brand new in 1984. He gave it to me in 1991 and I packaged it up and put it away. It worked great in '91before I stored it. It seems that after 17 years in storage one of the old 4164 DRAM chips is failing on POST so an initial memory error is displayed. It then goes to the IBM ROM Basic interpreter. It takes 8 of these chips to make 64K bytes of RAM plus a 9th chip for parity error checking. There are 4 banks of RAM and bank 0 is soldered. (which I guess is another reason why I have been too lazy to repair it) The other 3 banks are socketed but are not populated. The error code even gives me an indication of which chip is failing. If the purchaser is interested I can repair it for them for a separate fee. This is an absolute beautiful piece of vintage computer hardware. It is the cream of my vintage hardware collection for sure. Please feel free to inquire further if there was something a neglected to mention or for any other questions. Also please remember this is a collectors piece of vintage hardware and therefore I cannot except returns on this. However, I always try to be very specific when describing my items in the eBay community. Please enjoy looking & thank-you! also at: http://www.eleeco.net/ebay/ibm5150/ I also found these seagate ST-412 & ST-506 docs: http://www.eleeco.net/vintage_computing/seagate/ (.pdf reader required) Plus Seagate has some info posted at: http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=035f5a802efbd010VgnVCM100000dd04090aRCRD&vgnextchannel=f424072516d8c010VgnVCM100000dd04090aRCRD&locale=en-US&reqPage=Legacy#
