Description
ATLAS OF SURGICAL TECHNIQUES Filled with over 300 detailed illustrations, this surgical atlas covers operative techniques and addresses major intraoperative pitfalls. Oriented toward general surgery, it includes advanced operations which a general surgeon may unexpectedly need to do, such as a ruptured aneurism or embolectomy. Chapters contain material on maxillectomy, radical neck dissection, mastectomy, the esophagus, stomach, biliary system, pancreas, colon, uterus and adnexia, and much more. Annotation The book contains black-and-white illustrations. This is a new atlas that covers the variety of operations challenging the general surgeon. It is organized in an easy to use fashion, according to organ system. All illustrations are in black-and-white. The author attempts to produce an atlas with an appropriate number of excellent illustrations such that a neophyte surgeon might gain adequate instruction in preparing for an operation. The illustrations are very well done and are accompanied by brief, pertinent narratives. All necessary steps of each operation are included. Text describing the illustrations always appears directly beside the pictures, eliminating the need for continuous page flipping. The book is written at a level appropriate for the general surgeon in training who will be performing many of these operations for the first time, or for the more experienced surgeon needing review. The author is chairman emeritus and senior attending surgeon at Rush Medical College and is a respected expert in the field. This book is notable for excellent illustrations that clearly demonstrate the anatomy and techniques being described. There is an orderly table of contents and ample index. Of note, the laparoscopic approach to hernia repair, cholecystectomy, appendectomy, colectomy, and vagotomy are included. This is an excellent general surgery atlas that should prove very useful to any general surgery resident. It includes most basic general surgery operations including a section on vascular techniques and significant attention to the growing role of laparoscopy.
